People's Emergency Briefing Screening (16)

Book tickets for this urgent and thought‑provoking evening featuring a screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing, a powerful new film exploring the climate and ecological crises through clear, accessible, community‑focused storytelling.

Created to inform and mobilise, the film brings together scientists, organisers and everyday people to outline what’s happening - and what we can do next.

After the film, there will be a hackathon-style solution focused workshop, which will be facilitated by Dr Sharon Coen, Associate Professor in Media Psychology at The University of Salford. The MP for Urmston and Stretford, Andrew Western will also be joining for the screening and discussions.

This event is donation based with free tickets available, open to all, and suitable for anyone interested in climate justice, community organising, or understanding the challenges ahead.

What is a Hackathon?

Originating in the context of computing, where they bought together coders to 'hack' coding issues, the term Hackathon is now widely adopted to indicate events where groups of people with different competencies get together to find solutions to specific challenges.

Dr Coen has conducted climate-related hackathons in the past. In a paper relating to one such event, she noted how participants tended to make assumptions about politicians and explain their behaviour in terms of internal characteristics, rather than situational constraints.

Having politicians working with people in these groups will help establish a fruitful dialogue and mutual understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to climate action.
